Whether you own a used Jeep® Cherokee or a brand new 2018 RAM 1500, your car has many service needs to be aware of. While regular oil changes and tire care services are necessary, don’t forget that your brakes also need regular maintenance and upkeep. At Lilliston Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, we have many service specialists who are available to explain what signs to look for when it’s time to service your brakes.
Listen for sounds
We’ve all heard those squeaks and squeals next to cars on the road that need brake repairs. If you start to hear these high-pitched sounds when you brake, bring your Chrysler 300 into our Chrysler service center and we’ll take a look to see what’s causing the sound. But, if it’s been raining or your car has been sitting for a long time, see if the noise goes away after you’ve been driving a few minutes—sometimes moisture can build on brakes and that’s what is causing the noise.
If you hear a scraping or grinding sound when you brake, that could be something a little more serious. Scraping and grinding happen when the brake pads are worn out, and the wear indicators are coming into contact with the rotors. If this is happening, it’s time for you to replace your brake pads.
Pay attention to feelings
When you push down the brakes, if your vehicle is not stopping as quickly as it used to, or you find that you have to push very hard in order to get the vehicle to stop, this is another sign that your brake pads may need to be replaced. Bring your vehicle into our service center right away to have your brakes looked at.
If you have additional questions about brake pads, our Jeep dealers can assist you with all of your service needs. We hope to serve you soon!
